Ian Holm, an acclaimed British on-screen character whose long vocation remembered jobs for “Chariots of Fire” and “The Lord of the Rings” has passed away at 88.
Ian Holm passed on calmly Friday morning in a clinic, encompassed by his family and carer, his agent, Alex Irwin, said in an announcement. His sickness was Parkinson’s connected.
A star of stage and screen, Holm won a Tony Award for best highlighted on-screen character as Lenny in Harold Pinter’s play “The Homecoming” in 1967. A setup figure in the Royal Shakespeare Company won a Laurence Olivier Award for the best on-screen character for his actions in the lead role of “King Lear” in 1998.

He won a British Academy Film Award and increased a supporting-on-screen actor Oscar nomination for depicting spearheading athletics coach Sam Mussabini in the hit 1982 film “Chariots of Fire.”
He, too, showed up in “The Fifth Element,” “Alien,” “The Sweet Hereafter,” “Time Bandits,” “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “The Madness of King George.” More lately, he depicted Bilbo Baggins in “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogies.

Holm was knighted in 1998 for his favors to drama. “His shining mind consistently leads a misbehaving twinkle in his eye,” Irwin said. “Enchanting, kind, and savagely capable, we will miss him badly.”
